Primary and secondary education in Canada lasts a total of twelve years, and studying at public schools is free of charge. Canadian law mandates that children between the ages of six and twelve attend school. Children aged four to five may attend preschool classes in primary schools. Since Canada is a migrant country, almost every school has an ESL (English as Second Language) course to for the children of new immigrants.

The Employment Insurance (EI) program provides temporary income support to unemployed workers to tackle financial difficulties (Regular EI). The program also applies to those who have to take time off work due to life events such as injury, illness, quarantine, pregnancy, and caring for a newborn or newly adopted child (Special EI). Workers receive EI benefits only if they have paid premiums in the previous year. The program comprises two major parts: financing to insure against unemployment, and subsidizing to encourage employment.

Once covered by the insurance plan, you will be issued a Provincial Health Card with an identification number.
